After analyzing the class readings and watching The Truman Show, I have come to the conclusion that our whole/part of our reality is created by media advertising, where the public is forced into consuming products as well as ideas of advertising. Like what people are wearing they advertise it by having the logo somewhere on the clothes, also what people are drinking like for Pepsi they have the logo on the front of the can, while they also promote it on TV. These advertisements are the entire world, pushing ideas and telling people go out and buy things that are convinced we need or want. In reality, the main goal of advertising is to help use with our lives by making it better to choose what we need, or what we think we need. In addition, half of the things that are advertising on TV doesn’t actually look the same in person or taste how they describe it or do what they are supposed to. For example, an interesting personal experience that I had dealing with advertising was when I saw a commercial for “T.G.I. Friday’s”, a popular restaurant chain. The commercial talked about how you can get a full course meal for just twenty dollars and how the food tasted great and is much healthier than McDonald’s. In the beginning, I thought it was a great deal, but it was just a lie. I decided to go there one day and try one of their twenty dollar meals, but it actually came up to be thirty something and change. Also, the size of the meal was for a five year old, not an adult. Plus, there really is no fast food out there that is healthy for anyone, that’s why it is called fast food. Half the stuff they say on TV, or newspaper or billboard are not true, don’t believe the hype! There is no such thing as a really commercial that gives u exactly what they say they would do.
