Part 4: Eating :) (Favorite part)

After (Cooked)

it took like 45 min to make.
Me and my cousin ate the meal.
And it took me like 20 mins to finish :) The meal was Delicious
For Dessert we ate some Nutrient, Green Apples : )

So What did i learn?

  • First i learn that, making food, is not so bad, and the best part is eating what you create.
  • Also it made me feel proud, that i was able to create such a dish, and the fact that i gave my cousin a break from cooking, also i do say so myself, i am a terrific cook.
  • Salmon is a tasty food, that you can eat, just about anything with.
  • This project fit the theme of the course, by letting you experience that cooking more healthy food, and cooking at home can help the body more, rather than eating fast food, always it gives you time to spend with love one, and catch up on things.

Blog 18

My top three blog entries for the semester would be Blog 1 “Hype”; Blog 6 “The Truman Show” and Blog8 “Red pill or Blue pill: Is Ignorance Bliss” the reason being for me to have choosing these blogs as my top 3 because I believe that they were my strongest blogs. I feel as though I put much more thought into them, also I enjoyed these blogs the most. In blog1 “Hype” it help me to see what was my weakest point in writing and what I need to improve in, such as sentence boundaries, my grammar and putting the period and common in the right places. Blog 6 “The Truman Show” inspires me to be thankful for the life that I have and to be happy that my life is not planned out for me, unlike the protagonist Truman, who life was planned out for him since he was in his mother stomach. Besides that it helps me to realize that everyone goes through obstacle and life changing moment, but that is what life is all about. In blog 8 “Red pill or Blue pill: Is Ignorance Bliss” helps me to learn that freedom is not mandatory, it’s a choice either you like the idea of people controlling your life or you rather be able to control your own life and learn from your mistake.
Overall I think all of my blogs were my top, because I was able to learn from my mistake in writing and to improve in aspect of certain lack of ability, to be a better writer. Writing online was more fun than any other writing experience, because I despise writing papers with pen or pencil, I’m more of a typing person and also I am able to fix my mistake on the computer. I felt as though writing online was a shared experience because it helped me to look at my fellow classmate work, to see how to start off, or their point on a situation. I often looked at their blogs, so that I can get an idea on how to start my own. I never really thought that others were looking at my blogs, like I was looking at there’s, it probable was a possible they were to do exactly what I was doing to their blogs.
The lesson that I would take when leaving this class is to read something two-three times, so that I can truly understand what I’m reading and to always annotating when reading a passage it really helps. The thing that I would of like to of came across more in class, was the CAT, I would of wished we would of got to take more of the practice test. And spend more time with it than doing the blogs, even though the blogs did help out.  I feel as although, my writing skill was on an 8th grade level now it has improved drastically. I still need lots of work so that it can be a college level. I feel as nonetheless I’m leaving this class, with somewhat of a basic understanding of writing strategies. My most memorable moment in this class was discovering, why I was in the class and how it really helped me out, from when I first started it. I recommend any student to take this class, and to let them know that it’s not easy, but it will help you improve your writing skills.

In the film "The Story of Stuff" Annie Leonard argues that the people living in countries with resources do not have value because they don't own the resources, even if they've been living there for generation. The person that is responsible for this reality is the government the reason being is that the government does not care about the people they care more about the corporation, than the people. The corporation are benefiting from this because they’re getting more money and have more business. The people that are suffering are the third world people, the people that help create the products, from Mexico, China or even South Africa, are suffering. we the people are benefiting by this because were able to buy certain things for five dollars or less, while the person that created the product only gets 5 percent of their work. In my opinion this reality is not necessary because the people in the third world should not have to suffer for our needs and wants. By us crazing for the new iPods or other electronically device we need to see, were it comes from and how it is made and delivered to the United States. Even though these products. Are (Of the people, for the people and by the people) It still effects the society that we live in. and it leaves a big impact on it. We the people should have more value on the things we buy.

In the movie "Sleep Dealer" it discuss how soldiers are able to go on missions by remote-piloting drones, to far away places. these mission that they are committing are televised live. and the advantage of these kind of remote warfare is that the United States use drones such as these for combat in Afghanistan, and to portal the border between the US and Mexico. the disadvantage of these kind of things is that the people that, they may be attacked, might be innocent bystanders. that didn't know they were disturbing something.
In my opinion i do not think it is a good idea to have such vagueness, things done in the United States, i feel as though, by having soldiers in other countries and having them with unprotected weapons and safety that, is good enough damage to our country than to provide these drones killing so called suspect that we consider enemies. these type of weapon will not help better the world. but it will help destroy it.
In the Film Rudy Ramirez a Mexican-american drone, in other words "pilot" heisted before he explodes the enemy. (Memo father) in my eye the reason  for the hesitation is that it is rare to see the enemy face, and to see the enemy alive before there final death, also because by seeing the enemy it make you restrain yourself that this person is a human being, just like you and that they have love ones that are going to miss them because of you. it should be hard to kill someone at war because you have someone blood on your hands, that you are not able to wash away.
To me it is possible that in the world we live in that televised war can happen soon, the reason being is that our world is so crazy already with 911 and other bomb threat, also with t.v shows showing how cops take in hostage. that i wouldn't be surprise that they broadcast a show of people blowing up distance place, and people cheering them on, like that's the right thing to do. i for one wont watch it or have anything to do with it cause i don't condone that type of violence.

The New Industrial Migrants (Part 1 and Part 2)

In  the New Industrial Migrants, it discuss people who are immigrants that have to travel to a different location to obtain a jobs because they do not speak any English. most of these immigrants are Mexican, who lives in old trailer or motel  that have rusty mattress and also share rooms. these worker work several hour a day and only get poverty wage. they do not receive vacation or insurance if something must to happen to them on the job.these workers or working like slaves.
IBP a business insurance that is trying to turnover the way things are for the immigrants so that they can have a better life, and be able to take care of their families.
these companies had recruited homeless people, to work in there factories just so that they can stay in business. the real  cost of these meat market factories is to insurance to clean the food that we the people coincidentally eat. but it dose not reinsurance the people who life is at risk by taking on such task in cleaning the meat. and getting such little pay.

In The Article "Let Them Eat Fat" Greg Crister from Harper's Magazine, discusses the issue with, young teenagers eating at McDonald due to the cheaper meal and super sizes. he also discuss how fast-food companies have grown more aggressive to their target of poor inner city communities and pick on these people because of there low income
i agree with Crister because a lot of kids, after school nowadays will be crowded in one particular fast food restaurant, such as McDonald. the reason being is that they don't eat cafeteria food or that they are aware that there parents are not going to be home to cook them dinner. In addition i feel as though that parents should make more time for there kid, especially when it comes to there eating habit, so that they will be healthy and not constantly eat fast food, every day, also i feel as though the school have a big impact on what kids eat and should provide more healthier and tastier food for the kids.
Also i feel as though fast food should stop super-sizing, there meal, and just keep it at a regular size for the same price. Therefore fast food consumers won't eat as much fast food and there calories will not increase.
In all Crister gave some valuable suggested on how fast food is damaging the body and how we the people should prevent it from continuing and est more healthier

In the Food Unit, it connects with the other unit that we discussed during the course. because it relates to the Brave New World quote "you shall no the truth, and the truth shall make you mad." this quote reflect the decision of bearing the truth that you may or may not want to know, for example for ("The Allegory of the Cave") the cave men didn't want to learn the fact that there was a world beyond, the world that they were living in, by here the truth it mad them expand the real world, unlike with The Truman Show, it basically drew Truman crazy just to find out the truth, about the so call world he was living in.
In my opinion the maker of the Meatrix, used the Matrix as there argument by connecting the food industry and the fake and real world, by describing the food as good food and bad food.

In my opinion the task that i completely finish very well was, my blogs the reason being is that, i am consent update with them, and also i put a lot of effort into them and i try my very hardest to do, the best that i can with it, the challenge that I'm facing is dealing with the CAT, and learning how to structure an essay with the period and pronunciation. also with trying to have supported evidence for my claim/thesis. for my responded from the CAT 3 i think, i need more help dealing with writing an essay and development it so i can get my point across. with that help i think that i can get my point across with being a better writer.

In the article "Happy Meals" Micheal Pollan discusses the ideas of eating better, and suggest ways to do so, some of the things he suggested are helpfully and others i don't know if I'm going be able to do it.

things that are helpfully to me to eat better are avoiding food products that contains ingredients that are unfamiliar to me that are says high-fructose corn syrup on it, they are able to do because they will help me eat better, and most food i eat nowadays are not high syrup or any other type of high fructose, also eating mostly plants and eating less can help me to be more healthier, also by spending less time in the supermarket can help me be eat better cause the supermarket barley have fresh whole food, that does not expire. or rotten.

things that are not do able to eating better is eat anything my great-grandmother wouldn't recognize as food, I'm not to sure about that because than i wont be able to enjoy my certain junk food snacks, that i have craving for , also i dont think i will be able to plant a garden in the time that i do have because planting a grarden takes lots of work,

But Overall, i think that Pollen ideas will benefit me in the future on my decision to eat more healthier.

In the "Story of Bottled Water" one of the myth that is mention is that bottled water tastes better than tap water, this is a myth because people can not tell the difference from bottle water to tap, even with the test that they make theirs know difference between bottle water and tap water. and people believe that bottled water test better than tap water because the way that it is advertised and also because they downgrade tap water making it seem as though, its not good for you and that it is not filter and has bacteria roaming threw it, while most all bottled water comes from tap water.and tap water is more secure than bottle water.

By exposing the myth of how bottled water taste better than tap water is by stop buying bottle water and buy having a bottle and putting tap word in it, also the only difference is that were actually paying for bottle water when we can get tap water for free and it is more conveniently.Furthermore we can advertise tap water and show the different of it to bottle water and how its more affective and cheaper.

In the article written by Nicholas Balakar "Imitation Of Film: Here's Smoking at You Kid" he discuss about the fact of R-rated movies with smoking children, and that they tend to pick up smoking at the ages of 10-14 if seen in movies.
I disagree with this statement because kids age 10-14 smoke on there own term, by seeing there parents are friends doing it, it has nothing to do with the actors or actress on movies, because the kids know that the celebrity are regular people and that all there doing is acting and they might not even smoke on a regular basic. for instance kids are pressured everyday to do things that they may not always want to do and with that is why most kids are where there at now, by listening to bad influence. i for one can relate, as a child growing up, i would wanna do what everyone else was doing than rather than be my own self, for example i had got my belly button piercing at age 17 because mostly everyone i knew had it done.from beyonce to regular kids in my neighborhood, so i went and got it done thinking that it will change me and that ill be more like beyonce, but it didn't change i was still the same old person from before i just had something on my navel, the reason i went and got it done is because i basically wanted to fit in with everyone else rather than stand out and be my own person.
Furthermore the author did point out that some kids have been smoking from far before watching R-rated movies, so that must mean that movies star in r-rated movie did not give them the impact on whether to smoke or not, they chose there own destiny to do it.
however as a child while watching r-rated movie that did not give me an impact to do anything because i knew it was fiction. In my opinion R-rated movie does not give kids the okay to smoke or do anything that is false or wrong. it is the kids who do so are the people they are around.

In the Meatrix the main point is that they discussing where meat and animal products come from, also they tell when agricultural corporation began and animal cruelty and it tells use exactly where our food actually come from. and it let us know as the consumer we have the power to not support the factory farms machine.

The main purpose in the Meatrix Revolting is the affect of cows and how mad cow disease is being formed, it discuss how there feeding cows pill and cutting of there tails, also they discuss by buying organic food, we the consumer can help save the animals.

The main purpose in the The Meatrix II 1/2 it discuss how the worker are getting injured due to the speed there working at, and also how manures are getting into the meat because the meats aren't getting cleaned properly.

Part 2 Food Saftey-

Claim: 76 Million American are suffering from food poisoning each year.

Reason: 325,000 people are hospitalized from food related illnesses, Most food- related is caused by bacteria, virus, parasites that are transmitted in the food that we eat.

Quote: According to the Meatrix website, “Cattle feedlots, both in the U.S. and Europe, made common practice of supplementing cattle feed with discarded animal products, which led to the spread of mad cow disease” Also “the largest recorded outbreak of Hepatitis A was traced back to green onions in Chi-chi salsa. Over 600 people in the Pittsburgh area were sickened in the outbreak.”

In the passage Red Pill or Blue Pill: Is Ignorance Bliss? The author Christine Cornell and Patrick Malcolmson states that, "Freedom is not something that most people are going to be inclined towards or be receptive to” I disagree with this statement because most people desire freedom, for example in the movie the Truman Show filmed directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol. They discuss the main character Truman, living in a life that revolves around him, and that everything is perfect, Truman has known freedom and cannot experience the really world life, which drives him crazy and does the most unthinkable thing just so that he can have a dose of freedom. In my opinion I will have to have some sort of freedom, even if my freedom is limited it will be better than not having freedom at all. Also most people are inclined to freedom, it’s their decision if they take it or not. Freedom is not mandatory is on your own terms, if you feel that you like what people do, for you or have no say in things are you basically like the ideal of people controlling your life, than you don’t want to have freedom, but if you don’t like none of those things than you desire freedom and you are able to have it.

In "The Danger of Reality TV" the author Timothy Sexton states the dangerous effect of reality TV and how it is affecting the mind of its younger fans.
I disagree with this statement, because the key to success is not image but rather than ability, in one of his claim he describe how you can go on a reality TV show such as fear factor and eat a bug, and walk away with a bucket of money, even though you can go on fear factor and win a thousand dollar by eating a cow brain, or something you have never ate before, the money that you win is not consent and will only last for a short period of time, unlike a person who actual graduated schools and have a steady job, there money will continually come.

But I do agree with his statement when he states that life is nothing but a completion that we continually engage in with each other, that is true statement in my opinion because regardless of anything everyone wants there life to be like monopoly and be able to be better than the other person, an example will be that every business in America what about a 100% consumers. And they want their business to be more advance and people to want their stuff more than another business.

Therefore reality TV shows like American Idol and Survivor or competition on who is the best and who will win the five million dollars, they describe the person ability to do something rather than their appearance and if they don't have the appearance the show will be able to help them look the role.

My experience dealing with reality TV show is watching the show Tough Love Miami, it’s about a group of women who are desperately trying to find love and doing it all in the wrong place, there a guy on the show that know how guys move and how to get a guy, so he help the girl find someone, I don’t think this show is a waste of reality TV shows because it’s not really dealing with money its helping women better themselves to finding the right guy it does deal with image but it also deals with education level, no men wants a dumb women, and no women wants a dumb mean

in conclude education is always the answer to a better future; looks can only take u so far. Even if you’re the hottest guy in the school that doesn’t mean your grades are going to be as good looking as you.

In the movie, “The Truman Show,” the creator, Cristoff, creates a world that he considers to be “perfect”. But, in reality, there is no such thing as a perfect world, where everyone has their own definition of what perfect is or isn’t, like for instants a world with vanilla ice cream would be great for some but terrible for others, because not everyone likes vanilla ice cream, or can even eat vanilla ice cream, there can’t just be a world where I like it, because there’s other people living in the world to, who might not like it. So, there couldn’t be just one world, there would have to be a different one for every single person. In the “real” world, everyone goes through stuff and faces obstacles that they never thought they would have to, but that’s what growing up and life is all about.
My life does not compare to Truman’s in any way. For one, the world doesn’t revolve around me like it does for him. My life isn’t planned for every second of every day, where I just go with the flow of things. However, that is not a bad thing. I’m able to choose who I fall in love with or not, so I would rather my world instead of Truman’s any day. I get to live my life the way I want to. I’m able to travel and be whoever I want to be. I make my own path; nothing is planned out for me. Also, anything Truman does is never wrong; he doesn’t make any mistakes. In my world, I’m constantly making mistakes. Imperfection is a part of life and I will rather have flaws and learn from them than to have the pressure of trying to be perfect all the time.

After analyzing the class readings and watching The Truman Show, I have come to the conclusion that our whole/part of our reality is created by media advertising, where the public is forced into consuming products as well as ideas of advertising. Like what people are wearing they advertise it by having the logo somewhere on the clothes, also what people are drinking like for Pepsi they have the logo on the front of the can, while they also promote it on TV. These advertisements are the entire world, pushing ideas and telling people go out and buy things that are convinced we need or want. In reality, the main goal of advertising is to help use with our lives by making it better to choose what we need, or what we think we need. In addition, half of the things that are advertising on TV doesn’t actually look the same in person or taste how they describe it or do what they are supposed to. For example, an interesting personal experience that I had dealing with advertising was when I saw a commercial for “T.G.I. Friday’s”, a popular restaurant chain. The commercial talked about how you can get a full course meal for just twenty dollars and how the food tasted great and is much healthier than McDonald’s. In the beginning, I thought it was a great deal, but it was just a lie. I decided to go there one day and try one of their twenty dollar meals, but it actually came up to be thirty something and change. Also, the size of the meal was for a five year old, not an adult. Plus, there really is no fast food out there that is healthy for anyone, that’s why it is called fast food. Half the stuff they say on TV, or newspaper or billboard are not true, don’t believe the hype! There is no such thing as a really commercial that gives u exactly what they say they would do.

John Dewey once said, “We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience." From my experience in “Basic Writing” class, I can truly say that I have learned a lot. Specifically, I learned a great deal from working with Dr. Ximena Gallarado, she had taught me the importance of rephrasing words as well as reading out loud any piece that I have written. These are things which I don’t do often, but should in order to improve my work. Dr. Gallarado also taught me how expanding my word choices can make a great essay.
What I have improved in the most since beginning the writing class is that my grammar  skills has improved and I now take a closer look at what I am writing. I also learned a lot about paragraphing and that you have to develop your ideas and support any claims made in a paragraph.
The material that I am still having trouble with is getting down the thesis. The reason being is that my theses always seem like they have nothing to do with the significant ideas and claims in my passages. So, my skills still have not yet built to where I can write a solid thesis, and I’m still having slight problems with my grammar.
Overall, my confidence level has stayed the same in “Basic Writing.”, I feel as though I have so much more to improve on. I need to expand my vocabulary and I need to be able to connect my words more smoothly in my essays. The reason I feel this way is because I know that my essay skills need a little bit of work, but I believe I have gotten a little bit better.
I have really come to enjoy “Basic Writing” because I never really had a class where I had to do blogs on the internet. Also, I feel as though it will help me with my major in college. In addition, I think that I will be able to improve my speech.
